Willow Bough Necklace

Inspired by William Morris’s much-loved Willow Bough print, this necklace takes the delicate willow leaves and branches from the original design and turns them into a piece of jewellery that captures teh essence of the willow.

The leaves are laser engraved into frosted sea glass coloured acrylic and paired with bronze mirrored acrylic.

With its soft, wintry colours and graceful movement, it’s a statement piece for anyone who loves William Morris, beautiful patterns and the natural world.

More about Willow Bough

William Morris found much of his inspiration in the natural world, and Willow Bough is a beautiful example of his love of plants and the countryside. Designed in 1887, it became one of Morris’s most enduring patterns and remains in production today.

What I particularly love about Willow Bough is the detail within its simplicity. Morris used several different willow leaf illustrations throughout the design, repeating and overlapping them to create a pattern that feels natural rather than rigid or mechanical. The leaves vary in shape and direction, giving the whole design a wonderful sense of movement.

I picked out some of these individual leaves and branches to create the jewellery, allowing them to move independently and catch the light as you wear them. It felt like a natural way to bring one of Morris’s most beautiful botanical designs off the page and into something you can wear.
